Healing From Violence and Abuse
Healing after violence and abuse can be a challenging journey and having safe spaces to unpack and relate to our experiences can be vital for healing. Being able to share our stories in safe spaces brings clarity, dissolves shame, increases connection, and can empower us to take steps forward. At LIA, we provide a safe, warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental space for women and folks to lay their stories down and receive the support they need to heal. We are honoured to walk alongside those who have experienced or been impacted by abuse and violence in their lifetime.

At LIA, we provide a safe and compassionate space where you can explore your experiences and receive guidance and support with finding and taking steps forward on a path that's right for you. We value your choices and work with you at your own pace. We support you fostering clarity, self-trust, empowerment, and connecting with the wholeness already within you.
How We Support You
At Love In Action (LIA), we specialize in healing trauma from violence and abuse. We provide individual therapy, EMDR Therapy, and Yoga Integrated Therapy.
Individual Therapy
Receive individualized support from a trained and experienced counsellor who will work with you to support you in your healing journey. Our warm and non-judgmental approach honors and centers you as we support your healing journey from violence and abuse.Your counsellor will support you each step of the way and uses a variety of practices that women and other survivors have found helpful in recovering from trauma from violence. All of these practices are empowering, anti-oppressive, and view survivors through a lens of respect and honouring the wholeness, strength, wisdom, and power that already exists within them. Some of these practices include: Response based practice, When Love Hurts framework, EMDR, mind-body practices inclusive of mindful self-compassion and yoga, and San'yas Indigenous Cultural Safety and feminist intersectional frameworks. Let us walk with you on the path to recovery and empowerment.
EMDR
EMDR Therapy is a powerful client-focused approach that many survivors find helpful for processing trauma from violence and abuse. Our trained therapist uses Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy a specialized approach used to support individuals in processing traumatic experiences of violence and abuse. Our counsellor has completed training to use EMDR to support women who've experienced domestic violence. Our trained counsellor will use this specialized approach to guide you through this evidence-based treatment to support your journey in healing and reclaiming your life.
Yoga Integrated Therapy
Healing is at the heart of our Yoga Integrated Therapy at Love In Action (LIA). Our unique approach integrates yoga teachings, including mindfulness and yoga movement and philosophy, with talk therapy to support survivors of violence and abuse on their journey to holistic healing from the effects of violence and abuse.
Our sessions are designed to provide a safe, nurturing space for individuals to explore mind-body connections and be supported in their healing process. Trauma-informed yoga practices your counsellor may integrate into your sessions to support you with finding and taking steps forward in your path include: meditation, breathwork, restorative and empowering yoga shapes and movement, and sutras which offer wisdom for healing and well-being. Inclusive of all bodies and no prior experience with yoga is required.
